Postpartum Support Kentuckiana

On May 18, 2006, a group that now calls itself Postpartum Support Kentuckiana held its organizational meeting at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville, KY.  Those in attendance had responded to an e-mail call for work group volunteers sent by Sheila Ward, University of Louisville Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, & Women’s Health.  Since then, the diverse group of professionals from health care, social work, education, public health, and interested members of the public have been united by a common concern for women who experience perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and have been engaged in efforts to identify existing resources and to create resources for women and families dealing with these issues.  The goals of Postpartum Support Kentuckiana are to increase medical knowledge about the diagnosis and treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, promote policy changes that improve access to treatment, and build referral networks among professionals and service providers.  Postpartum Support Kentuckiana is affiliated with Postpartum Support International, a non-profit organization.
